Bus catches fire at Fort Rouge Winnipeg Transit garage

A fire that involved a Winnipeg Transit bus in one of the city's parking bays is not considered suspicious.

A fire that involved a Winnipeg Transit bus in one of the city's parking bays is not considered suspicious.

Winnipeg fire paramedics responded to Winnipeg's Fort Rouge Transit garage on Osborne Street shortly after 10:30 p.m. Saturday after a fire alarm went off.

When crews got there, they found a bus on fire at one of the parking bays and workedto put it out, the city said in a news release Sunday.They had the fire under control at 11 p.m.

No one was found inside the garage. The city said initial observations at the scenedo not suggest the fire's cause is suspicious.

Fire on Andrews Street

City crews also put out a fire at a one-and-a-half storey home on Andrews Street between Stella and Manitoba Avenues.

They arrived at the home shortly before 11 p.m. and had the fire out at 11:17 p.m., the city said in the release. People inside the home evacuated before firefighters got there.

The fire is believed to be caused by an electrical hair straightener that was placed close to "combustible materials," the city said.

No one was injured, and damage estimates for both fires are not available.
