Woman killed in highway crash

A 41-year-old Manitoba woman was killed Monday night in a two-vehicle crash on the Trans-Canada Highway, just west of Portage la Prairie.

A 41-year-old Manitoba woman was killed Monday night in a two-vehicle crash on the Trans-Canada Highway.

The collision happenedaround 9 p.m. where the Yellowhead Highway Highway 16 merges with the Trans-Canada just west of Portage la Prairie, according to RCMP.

Thecar driven by the woman went through the intersection when another vehicle slammed into the driver's side, RCMP said.

Witnesses reported that the woman's vehiclefailed to stop at a red light andthecar that struck her had the right of way, police said.

The woman,a resident of Portage la Prairie, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 48-year-old man who was apassenger in the car was transportedto hospital in Portage la Prairie with serious injuries.

The driver of theother vehicle, a 60-year-old woman from the Rural Municipality ofShellmouth Boulton, was also taken to hospital in Portage la Prairie General Hospital with serious butnon-life-threatening injuries.

Alcohol is considered a factor in the crash, which is still being investigated,police said.
