WWE champ from Winnipeg arrested in U.S.

A professional wrestling star from Winnipeg has been arrested for public drunkenness in the U.S., police said.

World Wrestling Entertainment champion Chris Jericho, along with a fellow wrestler, were both "extremely intoxicated" at a gas station in Crescent Springs, Ky., when they were arrested at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, aspokesperson for local police told CBC News.

A taxi driver, who called police about a disturbance inside his cab, pulled into the gas station and called 911.

Police said Jericho and Greg "Hurricane" Helms were released later Wednesday morning after being charged with being intoxicated in a public place.

The wrestlers were in the area because of a scheduled match on Tuesday night, police said.

Jericho, 39, has received two major honours in Manitoba. Mayor Sam Katz gave him the key to the City of Winnipeg in 2004.

That same year, Jericho was inducted into the provincial government's Order of the Buffalo Hunt, one of the highest honours the province can bestow on individuals who demonstrate skills in the areas of leadership, service and community commitment.

Jericho's real name is Christopher Keith Irvine.
