Coun. Russ Wyatt: From first report of alleged sexual assault to stayed charge

Longtime Winnipeg city councillor Russ Wyatt (Transcona) was arrested Tuesday and charged in connection with what police called a "serious sexual assault."

Crown prosecutors have dropped a sexual assault chargedagainst formerWinnipeg city councillor Russ Wyatt, who representedTranscona from 2002 to 2018.

Provincial court documents indicate the Crown stayed the charge on June 5, 2019.

Wyatt was first arrested July 10, 2018, in connection with what police called a "serious sexual assault."

The alleged incident was first reported Jan. 14, 2018.

In the following months the councillor of 16 years made headlines several times, including for a months-long absence from city hall after entering addictions treatment in January.

Wyatt has always maintained his innocence.
