Montreal police are investigating two separate weekend shootings near Concordia University that left one man dead and another man injured.

A 23-year-old died in hospital early Sunday morning after he was shot on MacKay Street near Maisonneuve Boulevard at around 3:40.

Witnesses said they saw the victim fighting with another individual before gunshots were fired and the man collapsed on the sidewalk, according to police.

He was taken to hospital where he later died. Witnesses saw theshooter run away from the scene, police said.

Less than 24 hours later, a second man was shot at the corner of Maisonneuve Boulevard and Saint-Mathieu Street, in front of a building belonging to Concordia University.

The 28-year-old man survived the shots and is recovering in hospital.

Police said the shooting may be gang-related, but won't reveal further details until they've met with eyewitnesses.
