Teen among 4 people injured in Cte-des-Neiges stabbing, suspect in police custody

A 53-year-old man is in Montreal police custody aftera Sunday afternoon stabbing that left three peoplewith life-threatening injuries.

Three victims of a stabbing, including a teen, are expected to recover after survivinglife-threatening injuries.

A 39-year-old woman, a 17-year-old girl and a 44-year-old man were all stabbedat around 3 p.m. Sunday onGoyer Street nearDarlington Street in Cte-des-Neiges.

Police arrested a 53-year-old man in connection withthe incident.Hewas also taken to hospital withnon-life-threatening injuries, Montreal police said.

According toVronique Comtois, a spokesperson for theSPVM,two of the people involved in the stabbingare in a relationship and the other two knew them well.

"We had confirmation that there is a conjugal context, which means that for us, it's a confirmation that it's a targeted event," Comtois said.

Comtois saidthe violent encounteroccurred both indoorsand outdoors.Officers are still investigating to determine the causes and circumstances of the stabbing.

"We're really trying to understand how it happened," she said.

'This is unacceptable'

Lionel Perez, city councillor in the Cte-des-NeigesNotre-Dame-de-Grceborough,called the incident unacceptable.

"I am truly without words about the vicious stabbings in Cte-des-Neiges in plain daylight earlier today," he said.

"Not a day goes by without another act of violence being reported in Montreal. This is unacceptable and the situation is only getting worse."
