Man accused of killing Montrealer with a machete returns to U.K.

Van SonNguyen, a U.K. citizen,is now back in Britain after a second-degree murder chargeagainst him wasstayed under the Jordan ruling.

Nguyen, 52, is the third person accused ofmurder in Quebec to seehis charges stayed under the Jordan ruling, a Supreme Court decision that puts time limits on how long it takes for cases to come to trial.

Nguyen, 52, was arrested in 2013 and accused of killing a Montreal man with a machete.

His lawyer told CBC's French-language service that heboarded a plane leaving Montreal Thursday night, accompanied by two Immigration Canada officials.

Nguyenentered Canada in 2012 on a six-month tourist visa and was detained for more than four years following his arrest.

While not officially deported, theImmigration and Refugee Board of Canada ruledlast month that he would not be allowed to stay in Canada.
