Where to go and who to call: advice to Montreal-area residents before flooding

Cities and municipalities at risk of flooding are telling residents to secure their homes, stock up on supplies,prepare an emergency kit,and stay informed.

Below is information that has been shared with residents by Friday afternoon in areas at risk offlooding.

Montreal boroughs

• Montreal recommends following itsFacebookpage orTwitteraccountas well as the one for the borough your home is in.
• For up-to-date information, includingdetailsabout obtaining sandbags, call 311.
• Residents who want to stay in their home and not go to a designated shelter, are being told letauthorities know by calling 311.

Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue

• Information about flood status, flood-prone zonesand contact numbers can be found here.

Laval

• TheAccs community centre (6500 Arthur-SauvBoulevard) will open on Saturday, offering services and information.
• The city has identifiedoperationplanning zones (OPZs)for the des Prairies and des Mille les rivers as well as sensitive sites. When indicators predict aflood in the days to come, residents are notified by an automated phone message and sandbags are proactively distributed to the addresses of the targeted area.To find out thezone in which your home is located, call 311.

Terrebonne

• For up-to-date information, consult the city's website, Facebook page or listen to a recorded message at (450) 961-2001.
• Residents can contact the police service to request assistance and forinformation about sandbags by calling (450) 471-4121.

Rigaud and Pointe-Fortune

• Rigaud'sCity Hall will be open all weekendfrom 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., as will a service centre set up in the public library onSaint-Pierre Street.
• The Red Cross is at the service centre and isprovidingemergency shelter and personal hygiene kits.
• People who choose to leave their home are asked tocontact the service centre by calling (450) 451-8845.
• Sand can be obtainedat the Rigaud Fire Station as well as at the Pointe-Fortune Pavilionfrom 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• There is also a local emergency information number, (579) 217-0058, where residents canget the latest information on the situation.
