Brothers killed after ATV plunges through ice on Lake Magog

Two brothers have died after they fell through the ice in the Eastern Townships.

One man in his 60s tried to rescue the pair, but ended up being hospitalised himself

Two brothers died on Sundayafter falling through the ice on Lake Magog in Quebec's Eastern Townships.

Ral Frchette, 52, andDenis Frchette, 59,were on an ATV nearSainte-Catherine-de-Hatleywhen the ice underneath them gave way.

Witnesses said the ice was too thin to hold their weight.

One man in his 60stried to rescue the pair, but ended up beinghospitalized himself.

"I think he didn't even think about it ... it's truly heroic what he tried to do," said one local who witnessed the rescue attempt.
