Bernard Carignan remembered in ghost bike ceremony

Bernard Carignan, the 27-year-old cyclist who was killed on St. Denis Street in late August, was remembered in a Friday night ceremony near his favourite rock climbing gym in Mile End.

Bernard Carignan, the 27-year-old cyclist who was killed on St. Denis Street in August, was remembered in a Friday night ceremony near his favourite rock climbing gym in Mile End.

Carignan was killed on Aug. 23 while biking alongSt.Denis Street inRosemont-La-Petite-Patrie. His brother told Radio-Canada he was swerving to avoid being hit by a car door opening when he was struck by the vehicle behind him.

Dozens of people gathered near the corner of St .Laurent Boulevard and St.ViateurStreetwith white balloons to remember the avid cyclist and rock climbing enthusiast.

Organizers placed a white "ghost bike" at the site of the accident.
