Bertrand Charest, former Alpine Canada coach, faces new charges

Former Alpine Canada ski coach Bertrand Charest, accused of sexually assaulting 11 girls and young women, is set to appear in court again on Friday to face additional charges.

Former Alpine Canada ski coach Bertrand Charestis set to appear in court again on Friday to face additional charges.

Charest, 49, is already facing a total of 56 charges involving 11 alleged victims.

He was arraigned in March on charges including sexual assault and breach of trust involving girls and young womenbetween the ages of 12 and 19 between 1991 and 1998.

Charestallegedly assaulted the women north of Montreal and in France, Austria, New Zealand and the United States.

He has been denied bail anddetained since his arrest.

Alpine Canada said in a March statement it contacted the RCMP in 1998 about sexual-abuse complaints againstCharest.

The organization said it opened its own investigation early in 1998 and then toldCharesthe was being removed as a coach.

Alpine Canada maintains it was not aware of the results of any RCMP investigation.
