Boil-water advisory issued for Dorion-Vaudreuil after water main break

A major water main break in the Dorion sector of the suburb off Montreal's West Island has forced Vaudreuil-Dorion to issue a boil-water advisory until further notice.

Residents of many streets in Dorion sector told to boil water for at least one minute until further notice

The city of Vaudreuil-Dorion has issued a boil-water advisory for residents of much of the suburb's Dorion sector, after a major water main break on Tuesday morning.

Residents are being asked to boil waterfor at least one full minute, prior to consumption.

The water main break coincides with work already underway inVaudreuil-Dorionto repair the water system.

According to Health Canada's guidelines on boil-water advisories, water intended for consumption should be broughttoa rolling boil for at least one full minute, then cooled and put in a clean container or refrigerated until it's needed for use.

That includes:

  • drinking
  • preparing food, beverages and ice cubes
  • washing fruits and vegetables
  • preparing infant formula
  • brushing teeth

It is not necessary to boil tap water for other household uses, such as showering, laundry or washing dishes.
