Montreal's Bonaventure Expressway comes down

The final phase of thedemolition of the Bonaventure Expressway gets underway today, which means another round of detours for commuters.

The elevated span between de la Commune Street and Notre-Dame Street is being demolished.

Traffic coming from Montreal's South Shorewill haveto take Duke Street.

South Shore-bound trafficwill have to take Nazareth Street to access the Champlain Bridge.

The expressway is being destroyed to make way for an urban renewal project that will add a significant amount of greenspace to the area.

The $140-million Bonaventure project is due to be completed by September 2017.

The project is expected to make the area around the Bonaventure more liveable. (City of Montreal)
