Montreal resident, 25, dies in Brossard restaurant shooting

A man is dead after a shooting in a Brossardrestaurant, on Montreal's South Shore.

Man was transported to hospital in critical condition, but later succumbed to his injuries, police say

A 25-year-old manis dead after a shooting in a Brossardrestauranton Montreal's South Shore.

The victim, a resident of Montreal,was inside the Pizzeria Sofia, located on Leduc Boulevard in the Quartier DIX30shopping district, at around 10:30 p.m. on Friday when the shooting took place.

According to Longueuil police,the victim was hit by at least one bulletand taken to hospital in critical condition.

He later died of his injuries, said policespokesperson Const.Mlanie Mercille, noting the victim is not known to police.

The suspect fled on foot, running toward Highway 10, and is being sought by police.

Investigators found a gun on a neighbouring restaurant's terrace, but police have not confirmed if it is theweapon used in the shooting.

A perimeter was set uparound the crime scene as investigators combed the area for evidence, working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Mercille said a vehicle was alsofound burnedondesPrairies Road in Brossard that evening, but the two crimes have not been linked.

TheMontrealarea has seen two fatal shootings in crowded public places in a week.

Last Saturday night, a man linked to organized crime was shot dead in a hotel in Laval, Que., on the Highway 15 service road.

The victim, Salvatore Scoppa, 49, was shot at around 10 p.m.

Police have not caught the suspect.
