CGEP du Vieux Montral strike vote cancelled

After spending most of the day in debate at a special assembly Friday afternoon, students at CGEP du Vieux Montral did not end up casting a ballot on whether to continue their boycott of classes.

Friday's vote cancelled after student leaders say not enough notice given

After spending most of the day in debateata special assembly Friday afternoon, students at CGEP du Vieux Montraldid not end up castinga ballot on whetherto continue their boycott ofclasses.

Student leaders decided that a vote couldn't be held because, according to the rules, an advance notice of 24 hours must be provided ahead of a vote.

Students left the meetingfrustrated, after they'd gathered to vote for the fourth time this week.

Students concerned withprocess

More than 2,000 students attended a vote on Tuesday. In twoshow-of-hands votes, studentsrejectedboycotting classes.

A third vote was held after calls for a recount. That vote resulted in the students boycotting class.

"There is something wrong," said CGEP student Oona Avery-Jeannin. "They should have just decided by the first vote that the decision has been made and we continue on with our studies. The assembly was overwhelming, it was long."

More than 300 people signed a petition asking that another vote be held.

Since a vote was not held today, the boycott of classes atCGEPduVieuxMontralwill continue.

The next scheduled general assembly, which will take place next Wednesday, is when students will have the chance to vote again about whether students will strike.
