About Montreal City Mission

Montreal City Mission (MCM) is a downtown community organization that's been finding long-term solutions to problems of poverty and social exclusion since 1910. Located in St. James United Church on Ste-Catherine Street, MCM helps children from low-income families, children with special needs, as well as refugees and immigrants. Their goal is to help break isolation and ease their integration through their various program, which include:

  • Camp Cosmos summer camp.
  • Sewing Circle (part of the Women Weaving their Dreams Collective).
  • ARK (Art with Refugee kids).
  • MCM's annual Gatheringat the Table event, which brings together newcomer and Canadian-born elders along with student interns and volunteers.
  • Their Just Solutions legal clinic for vulnerable migrants with a precarious immigration status, including victims of conjugal violence.
  • The Green SAGE Vert program, which aims to raise awareness of biodiversity in the urban setting and promote care of the environment.

How you can help

Arwa Nofal is involved with the MCM's Sewing Circle. The group made masks during the pandemic, but has since returned to making gifts for the upcoming holiday season. (Rana Liu (CBC))

In addition to monetary donations,here are examples ofthe other kinds of other support Montreal City Mission would love to receive:

  • Food gift cards (e.g. Provigo, IGA, pharmacies).
  • Gift cards to a bookstore(e.g. Chapters).
  • Art supplies.
  • School supplies.
  • Sewing supplies.
  • Volunteers for French tutoring.
  • Bus passes/tickets.
  • Tickets to cultural & sport events (e.g. movies, La Ronde, hockey & soccer games).
