COVID-19 in Quebec: What you need to know Thursday

Premier Franois Legault hasmade changes to the province's outdoor masking rules yet again, and the health ministry has clarified who is eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine in Quebec. Here's what you need to know.

Premier backtracks on outdoor mask rules, health ministry clarifies vaccine eligibility

  • Quebec reported1,513new caseson Thursday and 15more deaths.
  • Since the start of the pandemic, there have been332,544confirmed cases and10,778people have died.
  • There are 661people in hospital (an increase of one), including 159in intensive care (an increase of seven).
  • 67,708vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours for atotal of 2,145,925sinceDec. 14.

More changes have beenmade to the province's outdoor masking rules. Now, Quebecers will no longer have to wear a mask when doing sporting activities with people outside their household as long as physical distancing is maintained.

Premier Franois Legaultmade the announcement in a Facebook post Wednesday.The rules have been modified several times in recent days and have created some confusion.

Legault also stipulated that couples who don't live together no longer have to wear a mask when spending time with each other outside.

Pop-up vaccination clinics for some Montrealers

The CIUSSS West-Central Montreal has announced that people who live inNotre-Dame-de-Grce, Cte-Saint-Luc and Hampsteadcan get inoculatedwith the AstraZeneca vaccine atSaint-Raymond Community Centre, 5600 Upper Lachine Road nextTuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Anappointment is necessary and can be madeby calling514-734-9912, as of tomorrow.

Residents of Cte-des-Neiges, Outremont, Town of Mount Royal and Westmountwill be able to get their shotof AstraZeneca at the Centre de Ressources Communautaire Cte-des-Neiges, 6767 Chemin de la Cte-des-Neigesnext Friday and Saturday. To make an appointment call514-734-9912, as of tomorrow.

Vaccination for people with chronic illnesses

People across Quebec who are60 and youngerand have high-risk chronic illnesses and receive treatments or consult their doctors in hospital areable to book their vaccine appointments. Eligible people who are not able to get the vaccine at a hospital can also get their shot at a pharmacy.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

  • Fever.
  • New or worsening cough.
  • Difficulty breathing.
  • Sudden loss of smell without a stuffy nose.
  • Gastrointestinal issues (such as nausea, diarrhea).

Quebec government reminders for preventing the spread of COVID-19:

  • Wash your hands frequently.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Wear a mask or face coveringwhen physical distancing is not possible. Wearing a mask is mandatory in enclosed public spaces across the province.
  • Stay at least two metres away from other people as much as possible.
  • Self-isolate for 14 days after returning from a stay outside the country.
