COVID-19 in Quebec: What you need to know Tuesday

Premier Franois Legault held a rare joint news conference Tuesday alongside opposition leaders to show they all agree that Quebecers must follow public health rules over the Christmas holiday.

  • Quebec reported 2,183new cases of COVID-19 and 28more deaths on Tuesday.
    Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 181,276confirmed cases and 7,794people have died.Here's aguide to the numbers.

    A total of 437doses of a COVID-19 vaccine were administered on Monday; 5,273 doses have been administered since Dec. 14.

Quebec Premier Franois Legault held a rare joint news conference Tuesday alongside opposition leaders Dominique Anglade, Manon Mass and Paul St-Pierre Plamondon.

"It's important that we are together, united, to save our health network," Legault said.

Cases of COVID-19 continue to rise in the province Quebec posted a record-high 2,183 new cases on Tuesday and particularly worrying is the number of people who are currently hospitalized due to the disease.

Legault said that while the province has ordered most businesses to close over the holidays and the winter school break has been extended, he cannot control what happens inside the homes of Quebecers over the Christmas season.

"It's time to be responsible," Legault said. He said Quebecers should think of health-care workers who are working over the holidays to treat the most severe cases of COVID-19.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

  • Fever.
  • New or worsening cough.
  • Difficulty breathing.
  • Sudden loss of smell without a stuffy nose.
  • Gastrointestinal issues (such as nausea, diarrhea).

Quebec government reminders for preventing the spread of COVID-19:

  • Wash your hands frequently.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Wear a mask or face coveringwhen physical distancing is not possible. Wearing a mask is mandatory in enclosed public spaces across the province.
  • Stay at least two metres away from other people as much as possible.
  • Self-isolate for 14 days after returning from a stay outside the country.
