COVID-19 in Quebec: What you need to know on Tuesday

The number of cases has gone down in recent weeks, with theprovince reporting fewer than 1,200 cases on Tuesdaythough the trends vary widely by region.Here's what you need to know.

Some regions could see restrictions lifted Feb. 8

  • Quebec reported 1,166new caseson Tuesday and 57more deaths. One previously recorded death is no longer attributed to COVID-19.
  • Since the start of the pandemic, there have been256,002confirmed cases and 9,577people have died.
  • There are 1,324people in hospital (an increase of three), including 217in intensive care (no change).
  • 4,164 doses ofvaccine were administered Monday. A total of 224,879doses have been administered since Dec. 14, accounting for 2.63per cent of the population.

Quebec's premier says he will make a final decision next week about which regions of the province will see restrictions lifted on Feb. 8.

But he said those in the Montreal area will likely have to wait longer.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

  • Fever.
  • New or worsening cough.
  • Difficulty breathing.
  • Sudden loss of smell without a stuffy nose.
  • Gastrointestinal issues (such as nausea, diarrhea).

Quebec government reminders for preventing the spread of COVID-19:

  • Wash your hands frequently.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Wear a mask or face coveringwhen physical distancing is not possible. Wearing a mask is mandatory in enclosed public spaces across the province.
  • Stay at least two metres away from other people as much as possible.
  • Self-isolate for 14 days after returning from a stay outside the country.
