Diamond Taxi has helped raise more than $77,000 for the family of slain driver Ziad Bouzid.

The 45 year-old driver was shot and killed last November while on duty.

Bouzid had been working as a taxi driver in Montreal for almost 10 years, and he was hisfamilys primary source of income.

The 45-year-old left behind a widow and three children.

Almost immediately after Bouzid's death, Diamond Taxi started a fund for his family.

"We would have never imagined to be able to raise so much from the drivers and we donated we matched the amount from the drivers and also from the public...It's quite incredible," said Denis Larame, Taxi Diamonds deputy general manager.

Larame said he hopes the money will help the family make ends meet for some time to come.
