Donations flow to Dawson College shooting victims

A youth organization says it has been flooded with offers of help and support from former Montrealers around the world, who want to lend a hand to families of victims in the Dawson College shootings.

Sun Youth has fielded more than 100 phone calls, and has collected about $25,000 as of Thursday night, from donors in Florida, Boston, Chicago and Israel, said director Sid Stevens.

The money will be given to families to help cover expenses ranging from medication to hospital parking.

"We're able to guarantee that we'll be able to help at least 20 families to up to a maximum of up to$1,000," Stevens said.

One donor offered cash to the family of Kimveer Gill, the 25-year-old who went on the shooting rampage on Sept. 13 at Dawson College, killing Anastasia De Sousa, 18,and wounding19 othersbefore turning the gun on himself.
