Quebec Public Health Agency says contaminated beef likely to blame

The Quebec Public Health Agency says it believes contaminated beef may have caused 14 people in Quebec to become ill from E. coli bacteria.

Quebec's public health agency is investigating an outbreak of E. coli bacteria sickness.

Fourteen cases have been identified in the province, and some have also been found in other provinces all from the same strain of the bacteria.

The last reported case was on Aug 13.

The agency said Monday afternoon that it has not yet determined the source of the outbreak, but it is likely from contaminated beef.

It is following routine protocols alongside Health Canada.

Public health officials are urging people to take precautions, including cooking raw meat properly.

About 50 cases of E. coli are reported in Quebec each year.
