The Energy East pipeline was at the heart of a protest Sunday afternoon inSorel-Tracy.

Several groups denouncedthe project outside an oil storage facility owned by Kildair. Organizers are worried about the impact the pipelinecould have on the environment.

Among the groups taking part in the protest was theLe Rseau qubcois des femmes en environnement, who argued that women would likely bear the brunt of any negative health effects from the pipeline.

The demonstration in the Montrgiecomes one day before hearings onthe project byQuebec's environmental review board, known by its French acronymBAPE, are set tobegin.

Acoalition of environmental groupswas seeking an injunction because it believes the hearings will not be complete without impact studies fromTransCanada, which is behind the proposed pipeline.

JusticelisePoisson rejected the request in a decision handed down Friday afternoon.
