'Suspicious' fire destroys historic building north of Montreal

A major fire has destroyed a historic building located north of Montreal.

Firefighters received a call a little before 11 p.m., and headed toward Usine Moody, a former factory for agricultural equipment in Terrebonne, Que., which was built in1892.

In recent years, the building has been used as a space for photo and video shoots.

About 100 firefighters from as many as ten municipalities worked to get the fire under control.There were no injuries and the building was vacant when the fire started.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but police are investigating given that"certain elements of a suspicious nature" were found at the scene.

The massivebuilding, which is near the corner of Saint-Louis Street and Terrebonne Boulevard, has aging infrastructure which made access difficult for firefighters, according toDave Svigny, who is the assistant director of the town's fire department.

Nearby residents were evacuated.
