Just 32 seconds after midnight Wednesday,Henri Baillargeon,Quebec's first baby of the year, was born by caesareansection at theCit de la Sant Hospitalin Laval.

Weighing in at4.367 kg, Henri was born to parentsAmlie Bouchard and Marc-Andr Baillargeon.

The couple had a feeling their son would be the first born in 2020, ever since the hospital's medical team told them their caesarean section would be scheduled for 11:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve.

"I kept looking at the clocks in the hospital," Marc-Andr Baillargeon said in a phone interview.

Henri was initially due on Dec. 20, but Bouchard's pregnancy "dragged on" for 12 days, her husband said.

Bouchard said the hat Henri has been wearing is inscribed with the year "2020" andwas actually made by hospital volunteers as a gift for the first baby of the year.

Birth at the MUHC

Elevenminutes after Henri's birth, Lucas Beelen was born at the McGill University Health Centre(MUHC), weighing in at 3.80 kg. The baby's mother, Marilou Edger, and father Jonathan Beelen are both from Montreal.

In a Facebook post Wednesday, the MUHC said Lucas and his mother are both doing well.
