Former judge to reinvestigate crash that killed 5-year-old boy

CBC/Radio-Canada has learned the province of Quebec will name a former judge to oversee the independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a five-year-old boy last February in Longueuil.

The former judge, Pierre J. Dalphond, resigned from the Quebec Court of Appeal in July.

He is currently with the firm Stikeman Elliott.

He will be seconded by lawyer Lucie Joncas anda representative of Quebec's director of criminal and penal prosecutions.

Last week, Quebec Justice Minister Stphanie Valle ordered an independent investigation into the death of Nicholas Thorne-Belance.

He was killed when a Quebec provincial police officer driving an unmarked vehicleslammed into his father's car.

The officer was travelling at122 kilometres an hour in a 50-kilometre zone.
