Pomerleau-Canam wins $729M contract to build new Olympic Stadium roof
Company to also be in charge of repairs for 10 years
The Groupe Construction Pomerleau-Canam (GCPC) has been hired to dismantle and reconstruct the roof and technical ring of Montreal's Olympic Stadium.
The Olympic Park signed a $729-million contract withGCPC Feb. 23, taxes not included. Quebec has earmarked a budget of $870 million for this project in earlyFebruary.
The GCPC will also be responsible forannual inspections of and repairs to the roof for10 years.
The roof will be fixed, rigid and feature a transparent glass hoop, so the tower will be visible from the inside.
It issupposed flood the stadium with natural light during theday and offer a view of the night sky. The concrete technical ring will be replaced by a steel tube with a curved cladding to match the stadium's architecture.
The work will be done in three phases and is expected to take four years to complete, starting this summer.
