Woman who disappeared in Hemmingford, Que., confirmed dead, partner charged

A 31-year-old man arrested Thursday has now been charged in the case of a 29-year-old woman who was reported missing last weekend.

Quebec provincial police have confirmed the body that was found in a southern Quebec town near the United States borderonThursdayis that of a 29-year-old woman who had been reported missing.

The woman went missing from Hemmingford last Saturday.

On Thursday, search teams with the Sret du Qubec(SQ) found a woman's body in the area where police had been looking for her, and said it needed time to identify it.That same day, the SQ also announced that a man had been arrested in connection with a disappearance.

The SQ has now confirmed the body found on Thursday is that of the missing woman.

On Friday, a 31-year-old man appeared at the Salaberry-de-Valleyfield courthouse and was formally charged with committing an indignity to a human body. The accused is the victim's partner, according to Radio-Canada.

According to the charge sheet, he is alleged to have committed the crime between Sept. 15 and Sept. 21.

Sept. 21 is the day police issued a call to the public to help find her.

CBC News is not naming the accused because there is a publication ban in place to protect the identity of the victim and a child.

The case is expected to be back in court on Wednesday.
