Jean Fortier to join Montreal mayoral race for Coalition Montral

Jean Fortier, a former chair of the city's executive committee, will run against Denis Coderre and Projet Montral's Valrie Plante, under the banner of the centrist Coalition Montral.

A third candidate has joined Montreal's mayoral race.

Jean Fortier, who oncechairedthe city's executive committee, is running under the banner of the centre-leftparty, Coalition Montral.

The former Vision Montreal councillorwill vie for the top job against the sitting mayor,Denis Coderre, and Projet MontralLeaderValrie Plante.

Fortierheld the second-most-powerfulpolitical job in the city from 1998 to 2001, duringthe Pierre Bourqueadministration.

Most recently, he was the spokesperson for Trainsparency, a coalition of groupswhichopposes theCaisse de Dpt's light-rail train network, supported byCoderre and both the federal and provincial governments.

Coalition Montral said in a news release that the party"sees itself as the alternative to extremes represented by quipe Coderre and Projet Montral."
