A Laval landlord tipped off police to a synthetic drug lab set up in an industrial area of Chomedey.

Laval police said the landlord hadn't been able to get in touch with his tenants for some time and entered the unit.

When he did, he found evidence of a pill production operation. On June 10, patrol officers entered the unit and found a pill press hidden under a tarp.

Drug investigators turned up more than 1,000 amphetamine/methamphetamine pills, another press and several boxes containing 72 kilograms ofunidentified powder.

Investigators are waiting on the results of testing on the unidentified powder. (Laval police)

That powder has been sent for testing, which is expectedto take several more weeks.

"We think it wasn't a factory producing pills yet, but they were close," said Laval police Const. Franco Di Genova.

The owner of the unit is cooperating with police, he said, but so far no arrests have been made.

Police are asking any one who recognizes the equipment or has information on the operation to call their confidential information line at 450-662-4636.
