Lester B. Pearson School Board closures and mergers: Key things to know

Lakeside Academy in Lachine is closing and eight elementary schools are being merged into four. Here are the coming changes to the Lester B. Pearson School Board.

Lakeside Academy to close, Thorndale, Orchard and Riverview to merge into existing schools

The Lester B. Pearson School Board has voted to close two schoolsand merge eightothers into four at the end of the school year.

The school board,one of Quebec's largest, overseesEnglish-language schools from Verdun to the West Island and further west off-island.

Here are the numbersbehind the schools involved:

Lakeside Academy (Lachine)

The school is closing at the end of the year.

  • Capacity: 1,150
  • Enrolment in 2010-11: 565
  • Enrollment in 2015-16: 426

ThorndaleElementary (Pierrefonds)

Thorndale Elementary will merge with Greendale Elementary School. (Google)

The school will merge into Greendale Elementary, which is also in Pierrefonds,at the end of the year.

  • Capacity: 444

Orchard Elementary (LaSalle)

Orchard Elementary School will merge into St. Lawrence Elementary School. Both schools are in Lasalle. (Google)

The school will merge intoSt. Lawrence Elementary Junior and Senior, which is also in LaSalle.

Riverview Elementary (Verdun)

Rivierview Elementary School in Verdun will merge into Verdun Elementary School. (Google)

The school will merge into Verdun Elementary.

Sherwood Forest (Beaconsfield)

Sherwood Forest Elementary School will merge with St. Paul Elementary School. The senior school (Grade 3 to 6) will be housed in the Sherwood Forest building. (Google)

The school will merge into St. Paul, and a junior school will be set up at Sherwood Forest.

St. Paul (Beaconsfield)

St. Paul Elementary School will house junior students (Kindergarten to Grade 2) from both St. Paul's and Sherwood Forest schools. (Google)

The school will merge with Sherwood Forest(as mentioned above), and a senior school will be set up at St. Paul.
