Lester B. Pearson teachers vote 51% in favour of new contract

Lester B. Pearson School Board teachers have voted in favour of a new collective agreement with the Quebec government.

The vote passed narrowly at 51 per cent Wednesday night during a special general meeting. The Pearson Teachers Union represents over 3,000 teachers at the school board.

However, teachers voted in favour of extendinga work-to-rule campaign.

Quebec unions representing public sector workersstruck an agreement-in-principle in December after months of stalled talks over collective agreementswith the provincial government.

Teachers, healthcare professionals and other civil servants held rotating walkouts across the province for months to protest contracts and budget cuts.
