Police investigate reports of a blade found in a child's Halloween candy on Montreal's South Shore

Police received a report that achildfound a blade resembling those used inpencil sharpeners inside a piece of candy the day after Halloween.

Longueuil police have opened an investigation after a smallblade was reportedly found in a piece of Halloween candy in the Greenfield Park neighbourhood on Montreal's South Shore.

Police received a report that achildfound a blade resembling those used inpencil sharpeners in a piece of candy the day after Halloween.

"Fortunately, the child was not injured," said Longueuil police spokesperson constable Mlanie Mercille.

"Investigators are trying to identify the person who allegedly distributed the treats."

Police say the treat wasreportedly acquired on Empire Street, between Churchill Boulevard and Regent Street, in the area of Greenfield parkon Oct. 31.

Police have met with the family who reported the incidentand will continue investigating in the area.

Mercillesays these kinds of situations arerare.

Police also urge children and parents to check their Halloween haul thoroughly for any candy that looks like it's been tampered with or unwrapped.

"If the candy is altered or falsified, we ask them to call 911," said Mercille.

Police are also urging anyone with information about the reported incident around Greenfield parkto contact them.
