Longueuil man arrested in connection to Jenique Dalcourt beating released

A man arrested in connection with last week's fatal beating of Jenique Dalcourt on a Longueuil bike path was released Monday afternoon.

Crown did not lay charges against the suspect, asked judge to release him

A man arrested in connection with last week's fatal beating of Jenique Dalcourt on a Longueuil bike path was released Monday afternoon.

The suspect, a man in hismid-20s, was arrested on Saturday.

He was expected to be formally charged Monday afternoon, but charges were never laid.

"The Crown prosecutor got up in the courtroom and asked the judge permission to release the suspect," said CBCreporter KateMcKennafrom the Longueuil courthouse.

The Crown offered no explanation why it made the request, and would not comment.

At the time of his arrest Saturday, Longueuil police did not saywhat charges he would face.They said they believed the suspect acted alone.The man isa resident of Longueuil, but does not live in the neighbourhood where the homicide occurred.

Dalcourt, 23,was attacked last Tuesday while walking along a wooded bike path in Longueuil, Que.
