Michel Lavoie, former mayor of Saint-Rmi, faces 14 new charges

Quebec's anti-corruption unit has confirmed that Michel Lavoie, the former mayor of Saint-Rmi, is facing 14 new charges including fraud and breach of trust.

Quebec's anti-corruption unit (UPAC)has confirmed that Michel Lavoie, the former mayor of Saint-Rmi, is facing 14 new charges including fraud andbreach of trust.

This is the third time Lavoie has been arrested by UPAC.He was taken into custody this morning at his home.

Lavoiewas first arrestedbyUPACin 2012, following accusations of embezzlement, fraud and conspiracy,and thenagain in 2013.

UPAC spokeswomanAnne-Frdrick Laurence said investigators allege thatLavoieintervened in the promotion of a sewerconstruction project while holding the office of the mayor.

The new charges are: 10 counts of fraud, onecount of breach of trust, one count of making a falsedocument, and two counts of use of a forged document.

Lavoieis scheduledto appear in court on June 8 in Longueuil.
