Montreal Canadiens' Brendan Gallagher might be out for six weeks but that didn't stop him from butting heads with a retired NHL enforcer.

Montreal Canadiens' feisty forward Brendan Gallagher, who is out for six weeks with two broken fingers, found a way to stay busy on Saturday.

Gallagherquickly called Kyte outlater that afternoon.

The 23-year-old Edmonton native tweeted video from Kyte's fighting days with the Winnipeg Jets in 1985.

Kyte fired back, sayingthat he had only been standing up for a teammate during that game where he punched former Pittsburgh Penguins'star Mario Lemieuxin the face.

He also accused Gallagher of playing dirty on purpose.

Gallagher was having none of Kyte's criticisms as he cheekily quipped that the game had evolved since Kyte's days.

The Twitter feudescalated quickly.

Kyte, who describes himself as an "opinionated NHL alumnus", didn't go easy on Gallagher.

He suggested that Gallagerlacked the talents to play at a professional level.

The Habs' player taunted Kyte, saying that he was lucky they never met on ice.

Gallagher's tweets ended therebut not before Kytemade one lastdig.
