From the installation of the hospital's first X-ray machine in 1923 to the opening of theMeakins-Christie Laboratories for Respiratory Research in 1973, the Montreal Chest Institutehas continuously refined its ability to treat respiratory conditions.

The founding director of the Meakins-Christie Laboratories, Dr. Peter Macklem, was inductedinto the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame in March2012.
