The first annual Montreal Dog Fest was held along the LachineCanalSunday afternoon.

The event brought dog-lovers together for a day of agility courses, trick demonstrations, flyball and of course, puppy kisses.

Event organizers came out against the city's controversialpit bull ban, posting on their Facebook page: "Dog Fest Montreal does not support breed-specific bans or any other measure which would lead to an increase in the euthanizing of innocent animals and family pets. We are dog lovers, first and foremost!"

The ban, spearheaded by Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre, is been indefinitely suspendeduntil there is final ruling on abylaw challenge put forward by the SPCA.

In the meantime, Dog Fest attendees were invited to get up close and personal with some pit bulls at the kissing booth station.

A portion of money raised at the eventwent towards Gerdy's Rescues and Adoptions, aMontreal-based animal rescue group devoted to finding homes for abandoned and homeless cats and dogs.
