Drivers, be wise: Montreal marathon, le-aux-Tourtes Bridge closure ahead

Montrealers are in for more traffic woes this weekend as themarathon and construction on the le-aux-Tourtes Bridge are expected to bring about major road closures.

Montrealers are in for more traffic woes this weekend as the MontrealMarathon and construction on the le-aux-Tourtes Bridge are expected to bring about major road closures.

On Saturday and Sunday, runners (and walkers) will be sweating it out during the 32nd edition of theMarathon Beneva de Montral. Races 10 kilometres and shorterwill be run Saturday while the full and half marathons will take place Sunday.

That day, both races will begin at 7:45 a.m. at Espace 67 on le Sainte-Hlne. The pathwill bringrunners to La Fontaine Park and up Saint-Joseph Boulevard where the groupswill split up. Half-marathoners will head east toward the finish line at Maisonneuve Park while people running the fullmarathonwill take a left and head north onSaint-Laurent Boulevardbefore looping back around again.

Residents living between St-Charles and Durham avenues northof Gouin East Boulevard, which isin the city's Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough,will be enclosed by Sunday's race paths between 7:30 a.m. and 1:05 p.m. on Sunday. Race officials suggest residents park their vehicles outside the enclosed area if they'll need to use their car that day since no vehicle will be allowed to enter or leave the area during the races.

A parking ban along the marathon's pathswill be in effect fromSaturday at 0:01 a.m. until Sunday at 3 p.m. Vehicles parked along the race course will be towed.

Closure of le-aux-TourtesBridge

The le-aux-TourtesBridge connecting the Island of Montreal to Vaudreuil-Dorion, Que.,will be completely closed this weekend as construction on the new bridge continues.

The bridge will be closed between St-Charles Avenue and the des Anciens-CombattantsBoulevardas of Friday night at 11:59 p.m. until Monday at 5 a.m.

The road leading to Senneville, Que.,from Highway 40 Westwill remain open.

Drivers are advised to use highways 20 and 30 in the meantime. Tolls on Highway 30 will be suspended in both directions over the weekend.

Presidents Cup coming up

Montreal, especially le-Bizard, will see an influx of tourists and vehicles on the road with the President's Cup golf tournament kicking off next Tuesday. The Royal Montreal GolfClubon le-Bizard will host the tournament until Sept. 29.

le-Bizard residents will have to obtain vignettes for their vehicles to circulate inand out of the island during those dates. Three vignettes will be distributed for eachresidence. People who live and work on the island can obtain additional vignettes at two distribution points located on the island and in theSainte-Geneviveneighbourhood.

The Royal Montreal Golf Club will host the Presidents Cup in late September, the biggest golf tournament to ever be played in Canada. While the event is highly anticipated, organizers, fans and residents of le-Bizard will all have to contend with the fact that only one bridge connects it to the island of Montreal.
