After months of delays, Old Port observation wheel opens for business

Montreal's observation wheel officially opens today in the city's Old Port.

Billed as the largest attraction of its kind in Canada, the 60-metre high Grande roue de Montralwill begin operating at 4 p.m. and runs until 11 p.m.

The observation wheel features 42 climate-controlled gondolas and offers 360-degree views of the city and the surrounding regions.

Each ride lasts two or three rotations for a total of between 15 and 20 minutes, according to its operators.

The wheel was supposed to open in June but the grounds around it and a building housing a caf, bar and offices weren't finished.

The bar and cafare still not finished but the wheel's operators are proceeding with the grand opening.

Ticket prices are $25 for adults, $19.75 for children aged 3 to 12, $21.25 for youth between 13 and 17, and $21.25 for seniors. Family packages are available for $77.50 (two adults, two children under 17, or one adult and three children).
