Montreal puts on free, outdoor concert featuring 3 orchestras, Rufus Wainwright

Montreal is marking its 375 birthday with a giant outdoor concert at the foot of Mount Royal this Saturday called Montral Symphonique, featuring Rufus Wainwright, Patrick Watson, Isabelle Boulay, Coeur de pirate and a tribute to Denis Villeneuve.

The city is marking its 375th birthday with a giant, free outdoor concert called MontrealSymphonique, to be held at the foot of Mount Royal thisSaturday.

The event will be an auditory and visual feast, featuring the city's three major orchestras, a tribute to filmmaker Denis Villeneuve and over 350 musicians, artists and singers.

The Montreal Symphony Orchestra, theMcGill Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre Mtropolitain will be joined bypop artists includingRufus Wainwright, Patrick Watson, Isabelle Boulay, Coeur de pirate, Pierre Lapointe andDJChampion.

The show, beginningat 9 p.m. on the corner ofParcandDes Pins avenues, is themedaround the four seasons.

As part of the performance,there will be a fifth imaginary season, a symphonic tribute to Villeneuve. The Montreal Symphony Orchestra will play the theme from theOscar-nominated filmArrival, while footage from the film is projected during the performance.

The concert will be broadcast in English on CBC-TVon Sunday, Sept.17 at 9p.m., as well as on Radio One atSept. 15 at2p.m. It will also be broadcast on Radio Two on Sept. 17 at 9:00 p.m. and on Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.
