Poor weather conditions causes flight delays, slippery roads

Environment Canada warns that roads, highways and sidewalks will be slippery, with about five to 10 millimetres of rain expected throughout the day.

Provincial police are dealing with dozens of vehicle collisions on Monday afternoon due to freezing rain and sloppy road conditions.

In the Montrgie and Montrealregions alone, there were more than 100 collisions, confirmed Sret du Qubec spokesman Sgt. Ronald McInnis. No one was been seriously injured.

McInnis recommends drivers and pedestrians take extra care while on the roads and observe a safe distance between vehicles.

The freezing rain is moving east, so McInnisadded that people travelling in the Eastern Townships should be mindful that road conditions will deteriorate later Monday.

Flight delays

Travellers are also facing delays or cancellations for arriving and departing flights at Montreal'sPierre ElliottTrudeauInternational airport due to the stormyweather.

Environment Canada issued afreezing rain warning for Boxing Day that covers Montreal and southern Quebec.

The freezing rain isexpected to occur for several hours lasting into the late afternoon, affectingareas such asMontreal, the Mauricie, the Eastern Townships and Quebec City.
