Tunnel linking Vendme metro to MUHC coming by 2019

Quebec's Transport Ministry has announced plans to create a new pedestrian link between the VendmeMetro station and the MUHC.

The universally accessible tunnelwill be made possible by the construction of an extension of the VendmeMetro stationbuilding.

Quebec is funding the costof the project, which is $76.5 million.

A temporaryVendme-MUHC tunnel unveiled in June came undercriticism for stopping a few hundred metres short of the entrance of the hospital.

The $5-million tunnel is alsonot wheelchair accessible.

As a result,the STM setup a new wheelchair-accessibleroute, called the 77 Lionel-Groulx/MUHC,earlier this year.

Construction is expected to begin in April 2017 and is expected to becompleted by end of summer 2019.
