Noise bylaws not working, says St-Lambert man

A St-Lambert man saysnew bylaws limiting noise for concerts at Montreal's Parc Jean-Drapeau are having no effect.

Michel Paniotti said Monday that he's been forced to leave town to avoidconcerts such as the heavy metal bands that played therethis past week.

Paniotti said the noise is so bad that he planned all his holidays this summer around events at the park.

"I think it's tragic that I'm finding myself having to leave my home in order to get the rest that I need in order to face the next week of work," he said.

On weekends when he can't get away, such as last weekend's Vans Warped Tour, Paniotti said the noise is unbearable andit's particularly difficult for his two, young children.

"They were complaining it's hard to fall asleep. I can hear loud boom, boom, boom noise coming inside the houseand this is with our windows closed and the air-conditioning on," he said.

The city of Montreal promised to crack down on noise at the park this summer but Paniotti said it's as bad as ever.

He said he has called police and city officials to complain but nothing has changed.

Aspokesperson for the city says sound technicians were onsite this weekend to ensure noise bylaws were being respected.

Paniotti doesn't buy it.

He's getting ready to leave town again next weekend when the Osheaga festival rolls into Montreal.
