Notre-Dame-de-Grce Park reopens after storm cleanup

Notre-Dame-de-Grce Park has reopened, nearly three weeks after a violent storm downed dozens of trees and branches in the area.

August storm uprooted trees, downed branches and damaged homes across neighbourhood

Parts of the park were closed for two and a half weeks, after an Aug. 22 microburst downed trees and power lines, endangering the public. (CBC)

Notre-Dame-de-Grce Park has reopened, nearly three weeks after a violent storm downed dozens of trees and branches in the area.

Borough Mayor Russell Copeman announced Fridaythat there is still some debris on the groundsbut that the parkis now safe for public use.

As of last week, the south side of the parkwas still closed because the borough said more work needed to be carried out.

The park,locatedat the intersection ofGirouardAvenue and Sherbrooke Street West, was initially closed after dozens of trees and branches weredowned by strong winds reaching up to 110 kilometres per hour during the storm on Aug. 22.

A microburstdamaged hundreds of homes, uprooted trees and downed hydro poles in that part of NDG, making it one of the areas hardest hitby the storm.
