Montreal will add 5 new pedestrian streets this year

Montreal will make sections of five streetsoff-limits to cars during the warm months of2016,following the success of a similar program last year, the city announced.

This year's pedestrianwalkways will be:

• Cte-des-Neiges Road withFrre-Andr Street (CDNNDG)
• Place Shamrock (RosemontLa Petite Patrie)
• Louis-Veuillot, Lacordaire andMonsabr streets (MercierHochelaga-Maisonneuve)
• BiencourtStreet andMonk Boulevard (Southwest)
• Dijon Street (Montreal North)

The streetswerechosen by the cityfrom recommendations made by boroughs.

Last year, the city designated sections of four streets aspedestrian-only and reported high satisfaction from residents based on surveys.

On Monday, the borough of MercierHochelaga-Maisonneuve said that closing Ontario Street near Place Simon-Valoismore thandoubled the number of people visiting the area and was a boon to businesses.
