Pierre Karl Pladeau, a Parti Qubcois MNA and avid cyclist, is in a Sherbrooke hospital recovering from eight fractures after a bike accident in the Eastern Townships over the weekend.

Pladeau broke his collarbone, pelvis, shoulder bone and some ribs.

"I want to tell my colleagues that I anticipated with great emotion the beginning of the parliamentary session. I wish my fellow members of the Parti Qubcois, and all members of the National Assembly, a very good return. Unfortunately, this bicycle accident will keep me in bed for a while," Pladeau said in a statement.

He and his former spouse Julie Snyder have been active on social media providing updates.

"Fortunately he was wearing a helmet. It saved his life," Snyder said on her Facebook page Tuesday evening.

While he may not be present at the National Assembly, the MNA for StJrme said he'd continue working while he convalesces.
