Lake Placid wouldn't be part of Quebec City's 2026 Olympic bid, USOC says

The United States Olympic Committee is pouring hot water on suggestionsLake Placid could be part of Quebec City's possible bid for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

PatrickSandusky, a spokesman for the USOC, said the organization's "sole focus"is on bringing the 2024 Olympic Games to LosAngeles.

"If we were to be approached by our friends from Canada, andto date we have not been, we would politely turn them down as ourfocus is 100 per centon bidding to bring the Summer Games back to the USA," Sandusky said in a statement Tuesday.

The comment comes after the mayorof the upstate New York village, Craig Randall,had expressed interest in partnering withQuebec City on a proposal.

Lake Placid hosted the Winter Games in 1932 and 1980.

In addition to Lake Placid,Quebec City MayorRgis Labeaumehas also floated the idea of collaborating withVancouver and Calgary on a bid.

Several cities in North America and Europe are believed to be considering bidding on the 2026 Games, which will be awarded by the IOC in 2019.
