Quebec City, Sherbrooke hotel workers vote in favour of strike

Four Quebec City hotel unions, representing workers from Hilton Quebec, Delta Quebec, Hotel Pur Quebec and Hotel Classique, have agreed to launch a 72-hour strike at the appropriate time. A Sherbrooke hotel has voted in favour of an unlimited strike.

Negotiations continueto be difficultfor the renewal of a collective agreement in some hotels across Quebec.

Four Quebec City hotel unions have agreed to launch a 72-hour strike at the appropriate time in votes ranging from 85 to 100 per cent in favour.

One Sherbrooke hotel has voted infavour of an unlimited strike.

In the province's capital, the decision was made by union members from the Hilton Quebec, Delta Quebec, Hotel Pur Quebec andHotel Classique.

Michel Valiquette, treasurer for the CSN and the one responsible for bargaining with hotels, said Quebec City hotels werefilled to capacity thissummer and employees are entitled to their share of the cake.

The union's demands includeholiday compensation,wage increases andcoverage in the event of job loss due to a closed department or technological change.

The CSN is bargaining for the same demandsin 25 hotels whose collective agreements expire this year in Montreal, Quebec City, Sherbrooke, Magog, Laval, Pointe-Claire and Dorval.

The CSN represents nearly 5,000 members in the hotel industry in 57 unions.
