Where will Quebecers be able to buy legal pot? Who will be able to buy it? Here is what you need to know about Quebec's new bill that lays out the groundwork for legalized marijuana.

The province has tabled its marijuana legislation, but how exactly will it work?

The Quebec government's new marijuana bill lays out the rules for who will be able to legally buy recreational cannabisand where it can be used, once it is legal in Canada on July 1, 2018.

Here is what you need to know.

How old do you have to beto buy legal pot?

Just like the legal drinking age in Quebec, the proposed minimum agelimit to buy,possess and consume marijuana is 18.

Who willselllegalized marijuana?

The Quebec government said the new agency that will handle the sale of legalized marijuana is the Socitqubcoise du cannabis (SQC).The whole operation will be overseen by the Quebec liquor board, theSAQ.

And where will people be able to buy it?

Legalized marijuana will be available for purchase both online and in physical stores.

The SQC plans to open 15 shops around the province where cannabis products will be sold. The agency will also offer online sales, and products will be delivered byCanada Post.

Where willpeople be allowed to smoke pot?

While people will be allowed to smoke marijuana at home and in public, therules will ban smoking in the same locations as those set out by tobacco laws.

Smoking marijuanawill also be prohibited on the grounds of universities and CEGEPs, as well as on the grounds of hospital and social services institutions.

It will also be illegal for anyone tocarry marijuana on the grounds ofelementary schools anddaycares.

WillQuebecersbe able to grow potat home?

Growing marijuana at home for personal use will be illegal.

In terms of commercial production, only producers who meet the conditions set out by the government will be allowed to grow it.

What about smoking before driving?

There will bezero tolerance for any kind of impaired driving associated with cannabis.

Those who are found driving under the influence will have their licence suspended on the spot for 90 days and will be slapped with a hefty fine.

How much will it cost to buy legally?

The province hasn't hammered out an exact price yet.Experts consulted by the government have suggested a price of $7 to 10 per gramin order to compete with products available on the black market, but not so cheapthat it wouldencourage cannabis use.
